After her car goes up in flames, Vika Carmichael finds herself stranded in Northern Washington at a Victorian house that hasn’t seen upkeep in longer than she’s been alive, owned by an eccentric, foul-mouthed artist whose goal of reconstructing the old house is to aid Pacific Crest Trail hikers.
The Pacific Crest Trail—or PCT—is a continuous footpath that stretches 2,660 miles from the Mexican border in Southern California to the Canadian border in Northern Washington.
In Hold for Hiker Trash, Vika, a recent college graduate, found comfort in her reputation as a “perfect student,” but her knowledge of art history is hardly applicable in the foreign culture of long distance hiking or in the reconstruction of a 140-year-old house. Vika is immersed in the company of the backpackers as they join to help Dane, the artist, and his mother, the affectionate Grandma Peach, strip the house before they can build again.
Will Vika be able to find common ground with her new hosts and the rugged hikers who visit the house, or will she be left on the outside looking in?

Hold for Hiker Trash eBook KA Hrycik

Before reading this book, I was unfamiliar with hiker culture and hadn't even heard the term "thru-hiking."

That being said, I really got lost in this world, taking more than a few long lunches and staying up later than a responsible adult should. The stories of the passing through hikers built a sense of adventure that made me want to have an adventure of my own, while the characters were believable and their discussions thought provoking, exploring meaning behind their actions.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a peek into a world they may not have known about, or who enjoys a good adventure.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Vika is such a relatable character. Between meeting all the various thru hikers and laughing out loud (or seriously mulling) over Dane's provocative, wildly combative, and insightful rants, I had GREAT time reading this story. Would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, great read.
I've learned about the PCT and culture surrounding thru hiking while thoroughly enjoying this well-written book. Great read - funny and thought provoking with enjoyable characters and attention to detail. Well-done!
I love any books on hiking and the PCT. The author gave an interesting look into what makes a person want to walk thousands of miles and endure harsh conditions. Her plot and story line were very interesting and I loved the quirky characters in the book. My suggestion to this wonderful budding author is to improve sentence structure, some sentences were too long and rambling and tended to be confusing at times. An ideal sentence is roughly fifteen words. Also sometimes transitions were awkward in the middle of a sentence and not a new paragraph. I would suggest more proof or beta readers to help make the book read more smoothly. And find a stronger editor.
I feel this author has many books in front of her, if you read her bio, she has a backpack full of stories and we can't wait to read them!
Loved the book - kept me interested in storyline - funny & tears at end. Recommend.
I read these books for the hiking .... There was very little hiking , but I liked it anyway. Highly recommend...
Loved the book. I got insight on what goes on in the mind of a dedicated hiker. Fun story line. Look forward to the next book!
You don't need to be a hiker to enjoy this book. Well written and good story line will keep your interest to the end.
