I'm really excited to get my gardening gloves on and dig into all of Maat's advice. It's so comprehensive - from how to test your soil, how many plants per square foot ( I always get that wrong!) and which plants go together.She even has some "recipe" or theme veggie gardens, like the salsa garden! I also love a raised bed - and there all all the instructions in here you could want. You can tell she has lots of hands on experience and it is so down-to-earth and relatable.
Not sure what to plant when? She's got that covered too by growing zone!

I have bought a few gardening books over the years, but I do like this one. It tells me what i need to know, and provides links for those that want more info. It doesn't just tell me how to fertilise organically and how to treats those annoying bugs that eat everything, but it also gives me advice on the different types of plants, when to plant them, companion planting etc. It is a 'one stop shop' of a book ie everything you need to know in the one book. The sort of book that i like and need! Good for beginner but also good for people like me who have been growing veges on and off for a while but now want to go organic!
I'm a newbie, and this book was easy to follow and understand!! Can't wait to get started!

It's ok as a starting point if you are a total beginner and know absolutely nothing. Too elementary if you know something and want to learn more. Beginners only.
I'm so excited about this book - it's giving me the confidence to go from Ms. Brown-Thumbs-Kill-Every-Plant-In-Sight to I think I can do this organic gardening thing. Simple, step-by-step, and so pragmatic. I CAN DO THIS!!!!
I feel like I could have a successful organic garden after reading this book. The are example layouts and advice on what to plant next to each other. Also, included are steps on how to make organic fertilizers. The banana peel section was fascinating. And I loved the idea to have a toad house near the garden.
